Mr Chemezov was born in 1952 in Cheremkhovo, Irkutsk region. In 1975 he graduated with honours from Irkutsk Institute of National Economy and completed courses of the Military Academy of the General Staff of Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. He then worked in Irkutsk Scientific Research Institute of rare and nonferrous metals, and in the research and industrial association LUCH.
Mr Chemezov is a member of the Russian Committee for Military-Technical Cooperation with foreign states; President of the All-Russia Association of Employers Russian Engineering Union; Chairman of the All-Russia public organisation Russian Engineering Union; Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Oboronprom, JSC Corporation VSMPO-Avisma, JSC AVTOVAZ.
Board of Directors member of JSC KAMAZ, JSC Scientific And Production Corporation IRKUT, Air Defence Concern Almaz-Antey, JSC Aviation Holding Sukhoi, JSC Kazan Optical and mechanical plant.
At the Seventh Congress of the All-Russia political party United Russia, he was unanimously elected to the Bureau of the Party’s Supreme Council.
By Presidential Decree No. 1575 dated 26 November 2007, Mr Chemezov was appointed CEO of the Russian Technologies State Corporation.
Mr Chemezov is a full member of the Military Academy, and Doctor of Science in Economics. He is the author of over sixty publications, including monographs ‘Military-technical cooperation of Russia with foreign states: experience of organisational engineering’ (2001), ‘Strategic management of the defence complex and military-technical cooperation of Russia’ (2006), ‘Military-technical cooperation of Russia in the 21st century: theory, methodology, practice’ (2007). He is also Head of the Military-Technical Co-operation Department of the Scientific, Research and Training Centre for defence problems of the Military Academy. Since 2005 he has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for the Support and Development of Physical Culture and Sports of the Russian Federation (Sport Fund).
Mr Chemezov was awarded an Order of Merit for the Country of the III and IV Degrees, Medal of Honour and Orders of the Russian Orthodox Church – Order of the Holy Blessed Knyaz Daniil Moskovsky and Dmitry Donskoy.
He was a Russian Government Prize Winner in the sphere of science and engineering for 2004; Winner of the National Prize ‘Man of the Year – 2004’ in the nomination category ‘Military-Industrial Complex’ established by the Russian Biographical Institute, ŕ holder of the badge of honour ‘Leader of Russian Economy – 2004’ of the International Forum ‘Global experience and the economy of Russia’, and an award winner of the A.V. Suvorov Military Academy.
