Igor Makarov
Chairman of the Board of Directors, ITERA Oil and Gas Company Ltd
Mr Makarov was a world-class athlete: a member of the national cycling team of the USSR, multiple winner and prize holder of many national and international competitions. Following his sports career, I.V. Makarov entered business. In 1992 he founded and took the lead of the ‘ITERA’ company.
Born in 1962 in Ashkhabad. In 1983 he graduated from Turkmen State University.
For his considerable contribution to the development of economic relations, strengthening of friendship and cooperation between peoples I.V. Makarov was given the state awards of Belarus – the Order of People’s Friendship and Francisk Skorina Medal, of Mongolia – the ‘Friendship’ medal, and of Moldova – the ‘Labour Glory’ Order. For charities and participation in the social programmes I.V. Makarov was given the awards of the Russian Orthodox Church and various public organisations. In addition to these, he is a holder of the national award ‘Energy of Russia 2003’ in the nomination category ‘Manager of the Year’.
In 2005 I.V. Makarov was appointed an honorary consul of Belarus in Moscow. In March 2006 the scientific and technical council of the St Petersburg Institute of Mining included I.V. Makarov in the board of trustees of the Institute and awarded him a Golden Merit Badge of Mining Engineers of Russia for his successful activity in the oil and gas industries and support of Russian education. I.V. Makarov is a member of the commission for the affairs of fuel and energy complex and mineral and raw materials base reproduction under the government of the Russian Federation. Since 2008 he has been a deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Federation of Cycling Sports of Russia.
